Dead Man Winter

Dead Man Winter

Dead Man Winter is a project of Dave Simonett, famous for previously leading the bluegrass band Trampled By Turtles. Simonett was born in 1980 in Germany, and first formed Trampled By Turtles in Duluth, Minnesota in 2003. Personal crisis led Simonett to set down Trampled By Turtles in 2016; he went through a rough divorce and announced the band would take a break shortly after.

Dead Man Winter, however, was an ongoing side project for Simonett. It released its first album in 2011 and took more of a rock and roll approach compared to Trampled By Turtles. Simonett used the pain and experience of divorce as raw material for Dead Man Winter’s second album, entitled “Furnace,” which was recorded in Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The album was released in January of 2017, and Dead Man Winter toured the United States and Canada promoting the album from February to April of 2017.
