Alborosie

Born and raised in Sicily, singer/songwriter and producer Alberto D’Ascola goes by the name of Alborosie, and was born on July 4, 1977. In 1993, he and fellow reggae lovers formed the band Reggae National Tickets, yet he parted from them in 2001 to embark on a solo career. Inspired by the Rastafari culture, he moved to Jamaica and later released his first album titled Soul Pirate in the late 2000s. His sophomore album, Escape From Babylon, was released in 2009. After gaining recognition for songs such as “Kingston Town” and “Rastafari Anthem”, he created his own label which he called Forward Recordings. 2011 saw him nab a M.O.B.O. Award (Music of Black Origin) for Best Reggae Act, and Alborosie became the first non-black artist to win this award. In 2014, he charted on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums with the release of Specialist Presents Alborosie & Friends, which went to #7 on the list.
