Tinie Tempah
Rapper TInie Tempah was born Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu on November 7, 1988, to Nigerian parents. He is a native of London, and did extremely well in school. At only 17 he teamed up with the Afterschock Hooligans group, with whom he recorded an incredible amount of songs over his two-year period with them. It was through Aftershock records that he released his first mixtape “Chapter 1: Verse 22” in 2005. His song “Tears” was what gained him the attention of radio stations, and he was fortunate enough to get tremendous airplay for that song as well as for “Wifey”. When his song was featuring on the Playstation Portable game Wipeout Pure by Sony, he was thrust into the spotlight, ultimately joining up with his cousin in the formation of the Disturbing London record label.
He later caught the eye of a talent scout in 2009 at the Wireless Festival, who could not understand how he had such a big audience but so few music releases.
Tinie Tempah released “Pass Out”, his debut single, in early 2010, and sold a little over 92,000 copies the first week. He later went on four tour dates with Rihanna, where he could promote his new releases. Finally, his debut album Disc-Overy was released in October of 2010, followed shortly by the release of his singles “Invincible” with Kelly Rowland and “Wonderwoman” with Ellie Goulding. He was nominated for four BRIT Awards in 2011. Tinie Tempah would go on to release his second album Demonstration in 2013, just after he was recognized at the MOBO Awards for the Best UK Hip-Hop/Grime Act that year.
