Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe, known widely by her first name Tinashe, was born on February 6, 1993, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was raised in Los Angeles, California, and started her career off in the entertainment industry when she was just an infant, as she was a baby model. In 2007, Tinashe’s music career took off when she was tapped by singer Vitamin C to join the girl group The Stunners, who had much success with their single “Bubblegum”, which appeared on the soundtrack to the Nickelodeon show iCarly.

The group split up in 2011, but Tinashe was not discouraged. In 2012, she released two mixtapes: In Case We Die and Reverie. Due to the undeniable talent that came through on these releases, Tinashe was signed to RCA Records. Her third mixtape entitled Black Water in 2013 built up enough anticipation that led to the release of a single “2 On” off her debut album Aquarius in 2014.
