Gleyber Torres is a Venezuelan professional baseball player born in Caracas, Venezuela on December 13, 1996. Torres is currently a second baseman and shortstop for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball. He started playing baseball at four years old and continued playing throughout high school. He was scouted by the Chicago Cubs after moving to Maracay, Venezuela at 14 years old. In 2013 he was signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent. Torres made his professional minor league debut in 2014 with the Arizona Cubs of the Rookie-level Arizona League. He went on to play with the Boise Hawks, the South Bend Cubs, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Tampa Yankees, the Trenton Thunder, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. On April 22, 2018 he made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees against the Toronto Blue Jays. While in the MLB, Torres has recorded 40 home runs, 117 runs batted in, with a batting average of .276.
