Gerald McCoy

Gerald McCoy is an American professional football player born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on February 25, 1988. He is currently a defensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. McCoy played football in high school at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City for the Southeast Spartans football team. He went on to play college football at the University of Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Sooners football team from 2006 to 2009. In 2010 he was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneer in the first round, 3rd overall, in the 2010 NFL Draft. He was signed to a five-year contract for $63 million. McCoy made his NFL debut on September 12, 2010 against the Cleveland Browns. In 2014 he was signed to a seven-year extension contract for $98 million with $51.5 million guaranteed. After nine seasons with the Buccaneers McCoy was released by the team on May 20, 2019. That same year he was signed with the Carolina Panthers. Throughout his NFL career he has recorded 297 tackles, 53.5 quarterback sacks, 21 pass deflections, and 6 forced fumbles.
