Cathy Hughes, born Catherine Elizabeth Woods on April the 22nd 1947 in Nebraska and is an American business executive, television and radio personality and entrepreneur. Well known in the 1970’s for creating a radio format titled The Quiet Storm, Hughes’ start was in radio, and is well known for revolutionising the format.

Hughes is well known for founding Radio One in 1980, and hosted the radio stations Morning Show for eleven years, and the radio station is still successful to this day. Going on to own over seventy radio stations, the businesswoman then launched TV One, a television network that was aimed at African American adults. Well known as a prominent African-American businesswoman, Hughes is known for her extensive radio career.
