Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch was born on July 19, 1976 in Hammersmith, London, England. He has been acting in theatre since 2001 and received a nomination for an Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting role for Hedda Gabler (2005). He also performed in Shakespeare’s Hamlet at London’s Barbican Theatre in 2015.

He began his television career in the United Kingdom with roles in Heartbeat (2000, 2004), Tipping the Velvet (2002), and Cambridge Spies (2003). He is most well known for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC’s Sherlock (2010-present). He has also appeared as Smaug the Dragon in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and Penguins of Madagascar (2014).

National Geographic has also used his voice for narrations, along with Discovery channel. He also has read several audiobooks and provided the voices for the 2012 documentary Girlfriend in a Coma. Benedict has also been on a variety of the BBC’s radio shows speaking on varying topics.
