ANOHNI is a composer, performer, and recording artist originally from New York City. She initially gained recognition through her work her band Antony and the Johnsons. They released four albums throughout the 2000s, including 2005’s I Am A Bird Now, which has since been hailed as one of the greatest albums of that decade. With the band, ANOHNI established her as one of the most compelling performance artists in the contemporary music scene, making dramatic changes and powerful statements with each tour. Hopelessness, her first album under the name ANOHNI, was released in 2016 to universal acclaim, receiving praise for her progressive production and lyrically blending the personal and the political. In the same year, she became the first transgender person to be nominated for an Academy Award for her song “Manta Ray,” which was nominated for Best Original Song.
