Violent Femmes

Violent Femmes

Coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Violent Femmes is a folk rock band. They were able to play music with essence of teen angst. The band was formed by Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie, and Victor DeLorenzo. The band signed under Slash label after being discovered by James Honeyman-Scott of the Pretenders. Their self-titled debut was released in 1983.

In 1984, their “Hallowed Ground” reflected Gano’s devout Baptist upbringing, which evidently showed the band’s shift of musical genre into traditional folk and country. In 1986, their album “The Blind Leading the Naked” played mainstream sound. In 1993, DeLorenzo pursued a solo career and was replaced by Guy Hoffman, releasing the 1994’s “New Times.”
