The Milk Carton Kids

The Milk Carton Kids are an indie-folk duo formed in 2011 and based in Eagle Rock, California. The duo is made up of singers/guitarists Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. The two are known for their use of vintage guitars; Pattengale uses a 1954 Martin 0-15 and Ryan uses a 1951 Gibson J-45. The duo released their first two albums for free online, the first of which was Retrospect in 2011. It was shortly followed by Prologue in the same year. After the release of Prologue, the Milk Carton Kids headlined their first tour which gained them attention and earned them a spot in the lineup of 2013’s SXSW Music Festival. They joined Joe Purdy’s tour as headliners and backup musicians in 2013.

Their first studio-released album was The Ash & The Clay in 2013, released by ANTI- Records. They won a Grammy that year for Best Folk Album. In 2013, they were also nominated for an Emerging Artist of the Year Award by the Americana Music Honors & Awards. In 2014, they won Duo/Group of the year at the Americana Music Association Awards. They released their fourth album, Monterey, in 2015.
