Tech N9ne

With roots in Kansas City, Missouri, rapper Tech N9ne was born Aaron Dontez Yates on November 8, 1971. As a child, the only way he could remember how to spell his name was if he turned it into a rap, and thus, his interest in rapping was born. His mother, who raised him, was very sick when he was growing up, something that inspired him to try to find a life of God and spirituality. When he was 19, he and a few fellow rappers formed the short-lived group Black Mafia, and after their end, he moved on to the group The Regime in 1997, which provided him the opportunity to meet other rappers and artists such as Eminem, RZA, Xzibit, and others. In 1999, he co-founded the label Strange Music. 2001 saw the release of his album Anghellic, followed by Absolute Power in 2002, which charted at #79 on the Billboard 200.

Without taking a break, Tech N9ne released Everready (The Religion) in 2006, Misery Loves Company in 2007, and Killer in 2008. At that point, it was recorded that his total album sales had exceeded one million. He would go on to release at least one album per year, barring in 2012, and his music has appeared in a variety of TV shows such as My Super Sweet 16, The Hills, and Dark Angel, among others.
