Sum 41

Sum 41

Sum 41 is a Canadian punk band that will remind you a whole lot of Green Day and The Offspring, only a little more hip than that even, since they blend in everything from hip-hop to plain old pop. The line-up of frontman Deryck Whibley (vocals, guitar), Dave Baksh (guitar, backing vocals), Cone McCaslin (bass), and Steve Jocz (drums), were all playing in rival bands in high school before joining forces. They signed to Island Records in 1999 after some identity-searching and released their debut “All Killer No Filler” in (2001).

Since their turn-of-the-century start, Sum 41 has been living punk like it never went away, with multi-platinum selling albums and multiple awards including Junos, MuchMusics, Alt-Presses, and nominated for much more including a Grammy. Their latest album “13 Voices” (2016) scored #22 on Billboard’s Album 200, and made the top-20 in the UK. They’ve stayed on tour with brief breaks, somehow less famous than many pop-punk bands even though their sound is no less clean.
