Seth Lakeman

Seth Lakeman was born on March 26, 1977 in Buckland Monachorum, England.

Lakeman started music with his two brothers in a folk band, ‘The Lakeman Brothers’, but shortly after establishing this partnership, he decided to go forward as a solo artist. Lakeman’s first solo album ‘The Punch Bowl’ was released in 2002. Lakeman’s second album ‘Kitty Jay’ was released in 2004. Lakeman was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005 for his album ‘Kitty Jay’, but he lost out to Anthony and the Johnsons’ ‘I Am a Bird Now’. After receiving this nomination for the Mercury Music Prize, Lakeman toured his music across the UK.

 

Lakeman’s third album ‘Freedom Fields’ was released in 2006, and went on to contain one of the biggest selling UK folk songs ever released, ‘Lady of the Sea’. His success continued, and he has since gone on to release albums ‘Poor Man’s Heaven’ (2008), ‘Heart & Minds’ (2010), ‘Tales From the Barrel House’ (2011), and ‘Word of Mouth’ (2014). Lakeman has also appeared at many festivals in the UK, including Glastonbury and V Festival.
