Ryan Adams

Born David Ryan Adams on November 5, 1974, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the alternative country singer grew up reading the works of Edgar Allen Poe and Jack Kerouac. His discovery of the guitar helped shape his knack for writing lyrics, and in the early 1990s, Adams formed the band Whiskeytown, whose debut album Faithless Street in 1996 led them to score a signing with Outpost Records. Yet the band broke up shortly before the official release of their third album, inspiring Adams to pursue a solo career. His first album after Whiskeytown was entitled Heartbreaker, released in 2000, but Adams enjoyed more success with the release of his second album, Gold, which sold more than 360,000 copies in the United States and went gold in the U.K.

To date, Adams has released 16 studio albums. He produced Songbird, the 2006 album by Willie Nelson, and recorded a song with Sheryl Crow on his album Easy Tiger. This album is said to be his most successful yet. During his solo career overall, he has sold well over 2 million albums.
