Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. was born on April 4, 1965 in Manhattan, New York. He began acting in minor roles in his father’s films and earned his first lead role in 1987’s The Pick-up Artist. He also acted in Weird Science and Tuff Turf. He joined the cast of Less Than Zero in 1987, which opened up more roles for him. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his titular role in Chaplin (1992) before acting in several films back to back in 1995 and 1996.

He saw a career resurgence with his role in the television legal drama Ally McBeal in 2000, earning an Emmy nomination and winning a Golden Globe. He starred in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2003 and debuted a musical album called The Futurist in 2004. In 2008, Downey Jr. kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe of movies by starring in Iron Man, a role he would reprise several times. Tropic Thunder, released the same year, also garnered him praise. He also took on the role of Sherlock Holmes in 2009, for which he won a Golden Globe.
