Murray Perahia

Murray Perahia was born Murray David Perahia in New York City, New York, U.S. on April 19, 1947. He works with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields as the Principal Guest Conductor, and he has toured South East Asia, Europe, Japan, and the US as a pianist. Perahia started playing the piano when he was four. Later on, he went to Mannes College, and he joined the Marlboro Festival during summers. He won the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1972. He performed at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1973, and this marked his first concert. Perahia is the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music’s honorary fellow. Duke University and Leeds University also conferred him with an honorary degree. Her Majesty The Queen awarded him with an honorary KBE.
