Mormon Tabernacle Choir

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was founded on August 1847 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This choir is affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1849, the choir hired its first conductor in the person of John Parry.

It wasn’t until 1910 that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir started recording their music. The Music and the Word broadcast also started in 1932.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir received the National Medal of Arts in 2003. In 2004, the group was inducted in the National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The group was inducted to the American Classical Music Hall of Fame in 2015. The group also received a Grammy for Best Performance by a Vocal Group or Chorus in 1960. The choir also bagged several awards including three Emmys, the Peabody Award, and the Mother Teresa Award.
