Madness

Madness

Madness is the legendary British pop band best known in the USA for their smash hit 1982 single “Our House,” which has received so much airplay that only the dead and the deaf have been spared. However, there’s so much more method to Madness, as is well known on the other side of the pond. Current line-up is Graham “Suggs” McPherson (lead vocals), Chris Foreman (guitar), Mike Barson (keyboards, pianos, vibraphone, and backing vocals), Lee Thompson (saxophone, percussion, and backing vocals), Mark Bedford (bass guitar), and Daniel Woodgate (drums, percussion).

Madness has released twelve studio albums, the lowest-charting of which still made it to #65 on the UK Albums charts the list includes platinum, gold, and silver certifications. The same goes for their near-countless singles released from 1979 to at least 2005, charting high in the UK and Ireland singles’ charts. As we can see from their first top-10 hit, “One Step Beyond,” they started out as a rocksteady/ ska / 2tone band, even pioneering the sound, though they’ve evolved into many more styles by now. They’re worth a listen, but please give “Our House” a rest!
