Kurtis Mantronik

Kurtis Mantronik, born Kurtis el Khaleel on September 4th, 1965 in Jamaica, and currently residing in London, England, is an American-British hip-hop and electronic music DJ, remixer, and producer.  He cultivated his interest in electronic music when he moved to New York and heard the song “Riot in Lagos” by Yellow Magic Orchestra’s Ryuichi Sakamoto.  In the 1980’s he began to record demo music with MC Tee and formed the group Mantronik.

In 1984 MC Tee and Kurtis formed Mantronik and were signed to Sleeping Bag Records. Their debut single, “Fresh Is the Word” became a popular club hit in 1985.  The single reached number 16 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Singles Sales chart and was featured on the first studio album called The Album.  In 1986 Mantronix released their second album called Music Madness.  In 1987 the duo signed with Capitol/EMI Records and released their third studio album entitled In Full Effect. In 1990 and 1991, Mantronik released their final two album called This Should Move Ya and The Incredible Sound Machine.

In 1998 Kurtis began his solo career with the release of the album I Sing the Body Electro. In 2014 he signed to the record label called Street DNA. He then released a new album called Journey to Utopia.
