John Singleton

John Daniel Singleton was born on January 6, 1968 in Los Angeles, California. His career started with Boyz n the Hood (1991). He received two Academy Award nominations, which made him the youngest person ever and the first African-American to be nominated for Best Director. In 2002, the film was deemed “Culturally Significant” by the United States Library of Congress and it is preserved in the National Film Registry.

He later directed films like Rosewood (1997), Baby Boy (2001), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and Four Brothers (2005). In 2015, he began production on a documentary about West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur, and stepped down from being the director for the film. He also directed episodes for the television shows Empire and American Crime Story. He was also the executive producer for a series on BET, Rebel.
