Joell Ortiz

Joell Ortiz (born July 6, 1980) is a rap artist based in Brooklyn, New York. The Source Magazine’s Unsigned Hype section and XXL Magazine’s Chairman’s Choice column first led him to widespread recognition in 2004. He went on to win the EA Sports Battle the same year, leading to his music being featured in video games, including Grand Theft Auto IV and NBA Live 2005. He has since collaborated with artists such as Eminem and Dr. Dre and has been celebrated for his freestyle performances.

He released The Brick: Bodega Chronicles in 2007, and gained media attention after featuring on Joe Budden’s track Slaughterhouse with Crooked I, Royce da 5’9” and Nino Bless. Excluding Bless the rappers stayed on, subsequently forming the Hip-hop supergroup named after the track. His album House Slippers peaked no.5 on the U.S. Rap Charts, and he has most recently released his album That’s Hip Hop in 2016.
