Jamey Johnson

Jamey Johnson was born on July 14, 1975 in Enterprise, Alabama. He attended Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama; initially, he served in the Marine Corps for 8 years and his term of service ended shortly before his unit was to be deployed to Iraq. He relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he owned a construction business while trying to break into the music industry. His first album was released in 2002 and it was entitled “They Call Me Country.”

He landed a major contract with BNA records several years later in 2005, and shortly after “The Dollar” became one of his most popular pieces. After divorcing his wife around this time, he withdrew from public performing and focused solely on songwriting.

His songwriting earned him a role in assisting George Strait to write “Give It Away” in 2007, which won both ACM and CMT Song of the Year. He’s received several major nominations, as well. In 2009, “That Lonesome Song” was nominated for Best Country Album at the 2009 Grammy’s. He also received a nomination for Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2009 CMT Awards.
