James “J.J.” Hairston

James Hairston, or known as J.J. Hairston, is an American gospel singer born in Brooklyn, New York on June 22, 1974. He is best known as the leader and songwriter of the Youthful Praise choir. Hairston started Youthful Praise at the Bridgeport, Connecticut church Turner’s Faith Temple in 2001. The group was originally named Teens of TFT. In 2001 they released their debut studio album titled Awesome God with the label Evidence Gospel. The album was nominated for two Stellar Awards and earned the group the GMWA Excellence Award. They have since released the albums Thank You For The Change, Live! The Praise… The Worship, Exalted, The Best of Youthful Praise, Resting On His Promise, After This, I See Victory, and You Deserve It. The group has made television appearances on the shows Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Stellar Awards, and Bobby Jones Gospel.
