James Blake

James Blake Litherland, known better by the name of simply James Blake, is a British electronic music singer/songwriter. Born on September 26, 1988, in Enfield, London, Blake released his first 12″ when he was just 20 years old, entitled Air & Lack Thereof. The tracks were so good and his originality so clear that he was given airtime on BBC Radio 1, and later released two EPs in 2010: Klavierwerke and CMYK. BBC Radio 1 honored the latter EP as the “Record of the Week”, and he was lauded for his rendition of the song “Limit to Your Love”, which charted at #47 on the UK Singles list when it debuted. Later that year, Blake was chosen as runner-up in the BRIT Awards “Critic’s Choice”, coming in second behind Jessie J. Throughout the remainder of 2010, he was continually recognized at award ceremonies and shows for his work on CMYK.

James Blake finally released his debut self-titled album in early 2011, with critic acclaim coming to the singles “The Wilhelm Scream” as well as “Limit to Your Love” again, which was featured on the album. Later that year, he teamed up with group Bon Iver to record the song “Fall Creek Boys Choir”, which was followed by a release from the BBC of ten of his previously unheard songs. In 2013, he released his second studio album Overgrown, lauded for its first single “Retrograde”, for which he filmed a music video. Variance Magazine recognized it as the Album of the Year in late 2013. The album peaked at the #1 slot on the U.S. Dance charts, as well.
