Diana Ernestine Earle Ross was born on March 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She is a singer-songwriter and an actress. During her time in the Supremes (1959-1970), she led many hit songs including “Come See About Me,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Love Child,” and many more. Once she went solo in 1970, she had dozens of her own hits including “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Love Hangover,” “Endless Love” and “I’m Coming Out.” She starred in the films Lady Sings the Blues (1972), Mahogany(1975), The Wiz (1978), Out of Darkness (1994) and Double Platinum (1999). In 1973, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Lady Sings the Blues. In 1979, she was also nominated for the Saturn Awards for Best Actress in The Wiz. Along with movies, she has appeared in 33 TV shows including Tarzan (1968), Christmas in Vienna (1992) and The Voice (2014). She has achieved a collection of 14 awards including a World Music Award, a Tony Award, a Soul Train Music Award, a Golden Globe, a BET Award and 8 American Music Awards. In November of 2016, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
