Dave Thomas

Dave Thomas is a Canadian comedian, actor, and television writer born in Ontario, Canada on May 20, 1949. He is best known for his role as Doug McKenzie on the show SCTV and in the film Strange Brew. He started his career in 1974 as a copywriter for the ad agency McCann Erickson and within a year became the head writer for Coca-Cola in Canada. He grew tired of working in advertising and auditioned to be a performer on the Second City troupe and became a member. He landed a role in a Toronto production of the musical Godspell. He became well known after becoming a member of the show Second City Television in 1976. He was on the show from 1976 to 1982. In 1978 he landed his first role in a movie in the television movie Home to Stay. He has since had roles in the films and television shows My Man Adam, Love at Stake, Bones, How I Met Your Mother, Weeds, Splitting Hairs, Grace Under Fire, Deadly Companion, The New Show, Coneheads, Kidz in the Woods, Cosby, Pippi Longstocking, Who’s Your Daddy, White Coats and many more. Thomas has also voiced characters in a number of animated television shows, including Duckman, CatDog, Justice League of America, Animaniacs, The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill and others. Throughout his career he has been nominated for several awards and has won a Primetime Emmy Award, a Juno Award, a People’s Choice Award and more.
