Carl Yastrzemski

Carl Yastrzemski was born in Southampton, New York on August 22, 1939. He was just 21 years old when he made it to the big leagues. Yastrzemski played for the Boston Red Sox in 1961. He was initially a second baseman, but he became a left fielder.

In 1989, he was elected in the Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers Association of America. The Boston Red Sox also retired the number he was famous for #8.

During his career, he won 17 All-Star Games and seven Gold Gloves. He also received the Triple Crown in 1967. In the same year, he bagged the American League Most Valuable Player award.

He became the first American League player to have more than 400 home runs and 3,000 hits.
