Robert Barisford Brown is an American dancer, actor, singer and songwriter. With a career that began in the R&B pop group New Edition, he worked with the group from 1978 until 1985.  His greatest hit came with his second album Don’t Be Cruel, which contained the Grammy Award- winning Every Little Step, which has become his signature song. Thought to be a pioneer of new jack swing, he created the fusion of hip-hop and R&B.

As an actor, Brown had roles in films such as Ghostbusters II where he played the Mayor’s Doorman, A Thin Line Between, alongside Regina King and Martin Lawrence. Brown also worked on films such as Two Can Play That Game, a comedy starring Morris Chestnut and Anthony Anderson.
