Andrea Gibson

Andrea Gibson is an American poet, author, and activist, born in Calais, Maine on August 13, 1975. She is known for writing poetry that provides social and political commentary on gender norms, politics, and LGBTQ issues. She is a four-time Denver Grand Slam Champion and was the first woman to win the Woman of the World Poetry Slam in Detroit. In 2003 she released her first album Bullets and Windchimes and has continued releasing albums like Swarm, When the Bough Breaks, Yellowbird, Flower Boy, Truce, and Her Galaxy. Her albums combine spoken word poetry with music. In 2008 she published her first book Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns. She has also released the books The Madness Vase, Pansy, Take Me With You, and Lord of the Butterflies. Her work has been featured on C-SPAN, Free Speech, Air America, and BBC.
