Alex Trebek

George Alexander Trebek was born July 22, 1940 in Sudbury, Canada. Alex studied at the University Of Ottawa. In 1961, after graduating, he ventured into journalism and joined CBC TV as a fill-in newscaster. His sharp and calm demeanor on air helped him break into the game show industry. In 1966 he hosted Reach For The Top. It was Jackpot (1970) that brought him to national stardom in Canada. Itching for more significant opportunities, Alex moved to Hollywood in 1973.

His first American hosting gig was The Wizards Of Odds (1973). He then went on to host High Rollers (1974). It was Jeopardy (1984) that endeared him to Americans. He served as the show’s host, with great success, for more than 20 years. The appearance alone is responsible for five of his Outstanding Game Show Host Emmy Awards. It through this show that he has earned himself a star on both the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Canada’s Walk Of Fame. Alex now spends his time volunteering and acting as a spokesman for organizations such as World Vision and Smile Train.
