Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer is an English retired soccer player born in Gosforth, England on August 13, 1970. He started playing soccer from a young age, encouraged by his father, and continued to play on school teams all throughout his school years. Shearer went on to play as a striker for teams like Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United, and the England national team. While with the teams Newcastle United and the Premier League he was the record goalscorer on the team. In 1994 he was named Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and in 1994 received the PFA Player of the Year Award. Throughout his professional career he scored 283 league goals and 422 goals in all competitions. He also had the most Premier League goals in a 42-game season with 34, the most Premier League goals scored in a single match with 5, and the most Premier League penalties scored with 56. He retired from playing professional soccer in 2006. After retiring he worked at a television pundit for the BBC. In 2008 he became the Newcastle United’s Manager for the 08-09 season after leaving the BBC to save the team from relegation.
