Al Murray, whose full name is Alastair James Hay “Al” Murray, was born on May 10, 1968 in Buckinghamshire. Murray’s comedic career started when he studied at Oxford and was a member of their comedy group called Oxford Revue.

His best-known role in his career was his character known as The Pub Landlord. This character started at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1994. This character also made an appearance in many TV shows, such as Time Gentlemen Please, Fact Hunt, Live at the Apollo, Compete for the Meat, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and his chat show Al Murray’s Happy Hour.

Al Murray would often guest star as either himself or as The Pub Landlord in many TV programs as well as radio shows, like BBC Radio. He was also part of a documentary called Al Murray’s Road to Berlin.

Using this character, Murray published four comedic books, as well as a book called Let’s Re-Great Britain (2015). His character was nominated for multiple awards; his chat show did win “Best New Entertainment Comedy” in a British Comedy Award. Although his life was primarily in the entertainment industry, in 2015 he ran for parliamentary candidacy and won against UKIP leader Nigel Farage.
